Okay, sewing another pair of Japanese selvedge jeans. Will post pictures later on here. Not enough denim left for the waistband (which is very long). I suppose I could sew two strips together to make a longer piece, and just center the middle on the joined piece on the rear of the pants. 🤔
First piece of denim and my pattern from the original (was used as my prototype for fitting) #sewing
Maybe I will rummage around the scraps I got first to see if there's a long denim strip.
Answer: YES! Whew.
@ai6yr My friend who sews for a living (everything: Suits of every fabric, wedding dresses, kids costumes, tents…upholstery… etc) she saves every scrap… EVERY scrap in bags. When she makes stuffed toys or pillows for kids that have allergies, she stuffs them with that scrap collection. I know you don’t like to waste anything. Just a thought.
ps. Not watching or stressing about politics, because, I voted, exerted efforts beforehand elsewhere, and using any energy tonight on stress or elation or whatever is wasted, as none of that will affect any outcome tonight.
(energy to be spent in the future, depending on what happens or does not happen as a result of elections, of course. Cross that bridge when we get there. Winning elections is one thing; effectiveness after an election is another, and there's a heck of a lot of stuff that needs to be corrected, if even possible... and I don't trust the People In Charge will give up any power no matter what happens)
Also why I am a terrible sports fan: I can't muster up enough interest in if one team or another wins, because I have zero impact on who wins, don't have any investment in who wins, and frankly don't really think the billionaire sports owners need any more money, lol.
Lots of progress over the last two days, but no energy to photograph and post. Traced pattern. Cut pieces. Started sewing. #sewing
Went with white thread this time. Gold is better to bring out the stitching. Probably would pick a different color if I do this again. White is BORING #sewing
Here we are with front of pants. Need to remember how to do the zipper and fly.. which I appear to have forgotten already, lol. Have to search my posts here to jog the memory. #sewing
Waistband before attachment, after attachment. Tried the pants on an will fit, lol... had to rip and redo several seams. Not sure if it was due to fatigue, or I just missed the mistakes on article 1... may have to fix some seams on article 1 in the future due to fraying (not fully enclosed). #sewing #denim
And made some belt loops. Decided to use the selvedge edge for contrast and to keep these jeans from looking boring normal, lol. Still need to finish the bottom, and then tackle the buttonhole. May practice on scrap instead first this time, hand buttonholes = hard. #sewing
Next.. buttonhole. Practice first. Not going well. At all. Watched 6 videos for the method... attempt to sew... same exact technique. Ugly, ugly. Also denim poking it everywhere! The videos make it look straightforward, but I am missing some hidden knowledge here. #sewing #buttonhole
THIS IS NOT IN THE VIDEOS #sewing
Based on the YouTube videos, I need to adopt an English accent and wear a period dress in order to sew buttonholes correctly. #sewing
Good thing my tetanus shot is up to date. Can you get lockjaw from stabbing yourself with a sewing needle? 🤔 #sewing
Okay, forget the manual buttonhole. Time to take out the modern technology. First try failed, picked the wrong size. #sewing
Literally 1 minute later... okay, it's not nice like all your new fangled automatic machines, but sure is neater than my hand attempt, lol. #sewing
Okay, this is an option, for sure... assuming the bumpy edge on the actual waistband doesn't get in the way. The last pants I was quite worried the buttonhole wouldn't be able to move the fabric around.... #sewing
Okay, went with the buttonholer. It seems to be able to handle two layers of denim okay. Had to fix the edge stitch, too. #sewing
Btw, here's the biggest error I made on these jeans. I started sewing the waistband onto the back side, and missed the back piece, and had to start over after readjusting the fabric. To be REALLY neat, I should have picked the entire (incorrect) seam off and started again. You can see the doubled seam. But, these are pants for myself, lol. Poor QC! 🤪 #sewing
@ai6yr used left overs exactly like you described- put pieces together or used similar fabric and got some nice contrasting parts. Belt part, semi-visible pockets. 👍
