@akkartik Keyboard input yep. So you can type 20274-5 and "2027-04-05" gets saved, and copy-paste, and backwards delete across hyphens, and forward delete across hyphens...
@thomask A structured editor that selects using the mouse? Or did you use "textfield" to require keyboard input? That is indeed a royal mess, particularly with backspace support.
