worrisome EV moment yesterday/today. Got home and plugged the car into our L2 (220V / 30A) Flo charger as I do almost every evening, but this time the charge didn't start.
I fiddled around to see if it was a setting on the charger or car, but to no avail.
It just would not go.
More concerning though was that when I went in the car and troubleshooted from the driver's seat there was a new "Check EV System" triangle I have never seen before (2019 Kona EV - 295k km). I unplugged the 12V battery in an attempt to reset the system.... no help.
I went to bed worrying....
This morning I took the venerable Toyota Prius C (2013 Hydrid - 275k km) to work. It has been sitting idle since the kids left last month so it needed a run. That at least was a good thing.
Called the Hyundai service dealer from work... This was a call I needed to make anyway as there is a service recall out for my model for a Battery Management System software update. Just got the letter last week. This seems too coincidental.... but I am probably being conspiratorial 😆
Anyway, the Dealer said to double check all three levels of charging to see if all, some or none, are working.
@Tree plugged in the Level 1 (120V/12A) trickle charger today and it seemed to be charging from there just fine.
And now I am at a Level 3 (480V/60A? DC) charger near home and it's working fine here as well. Currently charging at 54KW.
Ill get it up to 80% so I can go to work and back tomorrow and also try the Level 2 charger there. If it works there then it could be a problem
with my home charger.
No one said the new thing would be less worrisome than the old thing I guess.
I have an appointment on Friday. (all out of warranty by now obvs.)
@chris @Tree
Personally I would drive the prius until you get the BMS done. This has been a huge issue with many Hyundai EVs, especially the Ioniq series. Once you get the BMS reflashed make sure the 12V is decent.
