HA! This is hilarious, a ham radio operator heard bank robbers talking to each other on walkie talkies, tried to report it, and the cops didn't believe it.

@ai6yr Sounds like a great movie premise. :)
@ai6yr if you hear burglars conspiring to steal expensive jewelry from a bank safe deposit box with your amateur radio, NO YOU DIDN’T
Kid’s cartoons where stealing luxury goods is depicted as bad are copaganda
The cops will blow you off because they hate nerds, and if they do use your tip they won’t pay the reward
@flyingsaceur (they do really hate nerds)
@flyingsaceur Oh wow, from Wikipedia
"...After the end of the investigation Scotland Yard considered prosecuting Rowlands under the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1967 for listening to unlicensed transmissions, but no charges were laid against him. ..." (the radio guy. Not kidding about the "not liking nerds")
(apparently a real thing, and a movie)
There's a lot more T&A in that movie than radios (ie, NSFW and not family friend)
First ham radio, this little bit. Yaesu FT-101 with the markings obscured, I think.
Huh, we have different criteria for SFW and family friendly.
@ai6yr
Please don't tell me you haven't seen it or at least heard from it?
It's a classic!
@ChampersBE Nope, have to add that one to the watch list, lol.
@ai6yr
Another (IMNSHO pretty good) one to add to that list: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095940
@ai6yr
The movie isn't brilliant, but watchable.
@ai6yr Signed the lease in his own name? lol
And also openly talking about their robbery in progress over the radio. Despite this ineptitude, half the gang and most of the loot was never caught. Sheesh
