I keep forgetting that there is a completely different association with transgender women and pumpkins
@cwebber@social.coop wait what's the non-horny one
@nycki various Spritely things have pumpkin references and our house is kinda year-round halloween themed and recently someone was like "oh is Christine getting in on the pumpkin posting" and I was like ohhhh I didn't even think someone would think about that association
@cwebber@social.coop I'm looking into Spritely and is this an application framework? I'm a little confused as to why that would be someone's first thought when they see pumpkins.
@astraluma @nycki Not really "object-oriented", because the way we mean objects has nothing to do with what people think of with that term. "object" means many things http://mumble.net/~jar/articles/oo.html
@astraluma @nycki But it is a distributed programming system that uses "object capabilities" (our system is built on top of functional programming concepts and would not resemble what you would think of in terms of say, Java OOP)
@cwebber@social.coop @astraluma@tacobelllabs.net im sorry, you've managed to define Spritely entirely in terms that are more confusing than when I started. What do you do with it? I'm familiar with functional objects like lua's tables and POJOs and such so I wasn't assuming object-oriented meant java, but now I'm confused as to what it IS if it's not that.
@astraluma@tacobelllabs.net @cwebber@social.coop okay let me be more specific, what is a type of program you would build with Spritely? it's not clear from context if it's an a runtime or a library or a protocol even!
edit: also as far as I can tell, Spritely isn't the name of any software, it's the name of an organization, and the software they make is called Goblins, so that's another thing that was confusing initially.
@nycki @astraluma If you wanted to build any kind of secure distributed tech, such as p2p chat, file sharing, etc, it takes care of much of the difficulty for you.
@cwebber@social.coop i think the best reply i have is just the pumpkin i carved.
