its impossible to overstate how disastrously bad the actual proposal is lol. why do politicians who hate big tech continue to introduce legislation that further cement the hegemonic powers of big tech platforms?
also, this proposal explicitly wants to ban 'pull to refresh' because that creates addicition lmao
so mad at myself for falling for the campaign to position Kathmann as a digital savvy MP

i made the detailed argument for a somewhat comparable ruling in that article
there is 3 problems:
- these type of regulations assume a singular centralised platform, and applying it on a decentralised network leads to incoherence. who is actually responsible is an extremely hard question here
- open socials largely cannot afford compliance, meta easily can. so meta persists, open social servers shut down
- it completely misunderstands where harm comes from
this proposal is good if you want the entire internet to become operated by meta and to have it illegal to run your own fediverse server
