DC elections are so cute. We vote for pretend members of the House and Senate, whose job is to rush over to the Capitol and be sworn in should DC get statehood during their term. (This is in addition to DC's non-voting House seat).

@ricardoharvin but we get to pick the slogan on the license plates at least!
Well, the "No" was removed.
@mattblaze so they are understudies permanently ready to go on if the star (DC gets statehood) suddenly gets sick?
@ukscone Understudies for a role that's not actually in the show, just in case it gets written in later.
It's like Model UN, but less consequential.
@mattblaze the non-voting seat wouldn't get promoted?
@bedirthan I believe the reason is that the House requires all is members to have been elected to their seat, and the DC non-voting rep is specifically elected as a non-voting rep rather than a House member.
@mattblaze But hey, at D.C. residents get fully taxed for not being represented.
Exactly as the Founders intended...
(I'm D.C. born and almost 50% lived)
