I just learned that last month the UN voted on a new map projection that actually positions countries at the correct size. It passed almost unanimously with one country voting against it. Not surprisingly, it was the US.

@scottjenson I thought Ukraine voted against as well due to the... ambigousness with the borders regarding the Crimea peninsula?

@larrythecow Just looked it up. The map had (not surprisingly) border disputes. Ukraine abstained (among 5 others)
@scottjenson well this does make Greenland waaaay smaller, which puts a wedge in the us' plans to acquire it
