easiest way to avoid this (commercial or residential)
1) don't connect the device to the internet!
2) if that is not possible, then fgs, change the default password to an actual password!

@chris I might also add that a standard fridge or freeze has no need to reach 50C. I'm a little shocked there wasn't a firmware block of temperatures above X.
@thatdnaguy @chris So if the compressor dies but the fans and stuff stay on your fridge can easily reach above 35C*, it happened in my post-doc lab and was a giant mess when we came in (it might have taken a weekend for that to happen, and it was a fridge not a freezer).
*It might have been above 40C, I'm not sure we recorded the temperature after seeing the horror.
@thatdnaguy @SRLevine i have seen reports that they got up to 50C. it is believable if the compressor stops cooling it just becomes a machine making heat....
@chris Most public water works have controls that are connected to the internet.
