THE PINEAPPLE HAS ESCAPED CONTAINMENT! This guy I planted last year, and who grew a sibling, has found its way out of the pot and through the bricks. I am going to do something potentially stupid and cut the root and replant it in soil.
@ai6yr that's good to hear. Now that they're replanted this is me
@robertcadena Ha! When it gets larger, the trick (believe it or not) is to drop some "Florel Fruit Eliminator" in the crown, which stimulates it forming a fruit. (Florel contains a hormone used to prevent fruiting in crabapples/etc. but which stimulates the development of pineapples). I do find they have to get to about 2 feet or 3 feet wide to be able to support fruiting.... I usually have them in 15 gallon pots at that point.
@ai6yr huh. These guys are definitely more than 2 feet on the base leaves. I’ll wait a month or so for it to get past the transplant shock and I will try the florel trick
@ai6yr saving this. Thanks
@robertcadena This might be helpful too.
(from a book called "Fruit of Warm Climates" by Julia Morton).
@robertcadena LOL. They do fine even if you chop the roots, btw... tough little plants!
