Listening to the news: 🦝 wait how the fuck do you get a fridge to 50 degrees, fridges get cold, there's no more a hot mode on a fridge than a cold setting on an oven, that's some Tom & Jerry shit...
🦝 oh the DEFROST cycle, right

@ifixcoinops if I'm understanding correctly, this is the 3rd major hack of this nature? Did thesr refrigerators also have a password of today's date?
@ajroach42 aye the news said it'd happened last month sometime as well
@ifixcoinops i mean, yeah, sure, that makes sense
but why can that be done over the network? why can anything but monitoring the temperature and whether the compressor is running (not controlling either) be done over the network??
@reb @ifixcoinops without any real background in this, i am guessing the answer here might be some kind of fleet management of things across a store as a whole
@reb someone left a serviceman's menu exposed is my guess, a tech will wanna be able to fire up the defrost coils to make sure they get hot like they're sposedta
@ifixcoinops as stores have employees in them on a very regular basis, i'd say @reb argument of having the networked part read-only is pretty reasonable as a technician could just call someone to press the defrost button, or it could be part of the weekly/monthly standard operation procedures.
(in case y'all were as confused as me. They kept hitting the defrost coils over and over, is how that shook out)
