I feel somewhat reassured in my decision to use bias strip for hem facing instead of identical sections of the flounce...
Because I just cut out the underskirt pieces with the same pattern but even with a much shorter flounce (which will receive a moderate ruffle to make up the rest of the height) and wow is the flounce just the most infuriating and wasteful piece to cut out! Ah. Fucking nonsense. I feel like this may have been enough flounces for me, did it twice, never again.
Almost done with the hem of the skirt, and surely many mistakes have been made... It'll be good enough to wear and only irk me, but definitely should have just cut the hem facings with the same pattern piece as the flounce sections, used a lighter fabric, done a narrower facing... Ah. Am mildly tempted to cut this hem facing narrower but am not going to right now, better just finish it and make it wearable and fix it later if it bothers me enough.
Looking forward to some relaxing joining, hemming and gathering of 9 metres of ruffle strip. It did good for my soul to just cut some stiff cotton I don't really infinitely care about instead of the nice linen. And wow, I'll barely put in a placket! Just bind the edges and install a singular button on the waistband and that's her done!
