@feld I’m not even using the port but building it myself.
I had to modify the source for it to be able to bind during the setup process (it tried to bind to 0.0.0.0 - which did not work inside the jail - I changed 2 .rs files to bind to the jail ip - which made the setup possible.
Afterwards I was able to switch back as the config was set to the right ip to bind to…
The rc.d script that’s provided by install.sh uses daemon to log stuff - but that file stays empty
If you're looking for something that is the "whole package" for email, Stalwart's probably still wroth investing your time in.
If you're looking for something that just isn't Dovecot/Cyrus for the IMAP backend and are willing to deal with the other pieces yourself, I'd recommend Aox. Most people don't know it exists. I wrote about it after my Stalwart journey here:

@feld Dovecot is my other choice - I guess Stalwart just would be more comfy - in theory at least.
I was curious how other people experienced Stalwart in a FreeBSD jail - as in whether the problem is just me/my setup, or a general thing.
Thank’s for your blog link - you jumped off Stalwart at the same in time as I did when I tried it the first time.
0.15 worked ok for me - the switch to 0.16 came with a lot of problems - I hoped 1.0 would solve those… doesn’t look like it so far.
Never saw the web server stop working though
