I don't know how to shop for clothes anymore.
I spent ~15 years thrifting all of my clothes because I didn't have the money for a modern wardrobe and I thought modern clothes were boring.
Thrifting is dead now though for a few reasons. 1. Everything is fast fashion now, so the thrift stores are flooded with the worst, cheapest stuff. 2. People don't donate their interesting old clothes anymore because they can resell them on depop and whatever. 3. Professional resellers descend on the thrift stores every morning and buy anything that is good.
At the same time, retail has gone so online that if you go into a clothing store, there's not much selection to pick from (and the clothes are cheap and shapeless anyway).
So, the only other option besides sewing your own clothes is to buy online, but I have no idea if something is going to fit me well or be flattering from photos of a model wearing it on a website. I can't stand to do what other people do, and just order and return stuff over and over until I find things I like.
It feels dismal out there! I need some new clothes!
@MLE_online The "professional thrifters" picking over thrift stores and estate sales to turn around and resell is horrible... people looking at the ebay value for something, which they know nothing about and don't need but they'll buy all that up the first day to mark up and sell elsewhere... Argh. I guess as much a mark of where the economy is as anything else (smacks of desperation on how to make a buck to survive, in some cases).
