@davidgerard @Nickiquote But how did the genius not figure that out ahead of time?
@davidgerard @grumpybozo so we shut down the CSAM creator… right?
@davidgerard @dyckron Easy. Shut it down. Stop the bleeding 😝
This is the song that doesn't end,
Yes it goes on and on my friends,
Some people
Started singing it
Not knowing what it was,
And they'll continue singing it forever just because...
(Since the beginning, the cost of running LLM chatbots has far exceeded the returns. The fact that he's admitting this hasn't changed is a welcome surprise, at least, like the person who everyone knows filled the air with shit-scented methane lowering their head and raising their hand.)
@davidgerard There's a reason he's trying to get it into as many US government agencies as possible. He needs the taxpayers to pay for it and to extract vast amounts of training data from what remains of the civil service on the downlow because he sure isn't going to start paying to train it by legitimate means.
oh “the cost is high” is it? who could have thought! what a revelation! 🙄
@davidgerard I'm confused. No, wait. I think, Elon's confused. The raison d'être for Grok wasn't ever as anything useful, or even an income source. It was mostly designed as an influence operation. The billionaire using a fraction of a fraction of his money for fascism outreach. If he now doesn't remember that, and thinks of it in terms of actual return on investment … bozhe moi … what else can flip?
@henryk @davidgerard People give Musk more credit for being a villain than I think he deserves. I think he scammed himself into thinking that LLMs were the superintelligent AGI that he wanted it to be (he was part of OpenAI back when it was just a non-profit research lab, so he was wallowing in this shit) and so he assumed that while he'd take a loss on it now, he'd be able to make back that money in spades once his superintelligence came online
I suspect money is going faster than he thought
I've been thinking about this in the context of his emails to Jeffery Epstein lately. He has the ones where he says how busy he is being the engineering lead at three complicated companies.
Musk is a true believer in most of the shit he says.
@dogfox @henryk @davidgerard I really do think this is the key to understanding Musk's actions - he believes the shit he says. People think he has to be running a con because he says such obviously stupid shit but no - he truly believes his own "genius" ideas
Contrast with Sam Altman, who is the con man's con man. He just says whatever to advance his goals but I'd be surprised if he believed anything but "Sam Altman should have all the moneys"
@davidgerard huh. You know someone should invent some kind of planning process to evaluate whether a particular business's ideas will form a profitable and sustainable business in the short, medium, and long terms
Some kind of "business plan" or "business model" we might call it. Might help figure out how to allocate funds...
@Jer what are you, a COMMUNIST
@davidgerard wait, you're telling me that generating csam is NOT how you get rich(er)?
@davidgerard pedohitlergoonbot unsustainable? say it ain't so!
@davidgerard Same guy who says saving for the future isn't necessary because AGI will bring UBI, and AGI's soon here -- juuuuust around the corner. Three months max!
