I think the main disadvantage of having been socialized by Star Trek is that I still assume everyone is an intelligent being and listens to reason.
@scy I think I'm caught in some kind of Trek-loop! Two months ago, I started a rewatch of NG/DS9/Reboots as a comparative assessment and so I could watch more Star Trek. Chekov and Picard almost immediately passed on, and I was left feeling ghoulishly like I'd started the memorial service early and now might be viewed with suspicion. All of this is to say - I also take each new person as though they are reasonable until proven otherwise. As evidenced by my loop theory though, I am often wrong.
@scy "We look for things."
"Things that make us go. We need help."
@LangerJan See, there were no Pakleds in the Trek I watched when growing up.
(Yes there's TNG 2x17, I must've missed that one during the ZDF run.)
@scy May I ask then, what was *your* first encounter with the Pakleds?
@LangerJan Probably still 2x17 when I first watched every TNG episode front to back in … 2018? 2019?
@scy
See! My advantage is that I was shaped by *Bonanza*. Things were pretty wild back then, just like they are today.
