The most upper west side thing ever happened to me which is a lady came up to my coffee shop table and asked if I could get up and leave because I was one person taking up a space meant for two.
@ShadowJonathan there were no other tables but yeah, I'm just sitting here reading my book and drinking my coffee
And of course my first instinct is to be "Oh, of course, of course, I'll just walk into traffic then."
No, I told her if she wanted the second chair she was welcome to it but I was fine where I was. She said I was everything wrong with America.
@srol proud of you
For some context, this is what this battle was over.
@srol had to grind for this view
@srol not being a new york person, I was foolishly imagining a table inside the shop, not on the sidewalk next to the garbage cans
I want to characterize this as "in the alley," even though I know about the lack of alleys in NYC. But I think if you're this close to a business's garbage dump you are spiritually in an alley
@funkula lol yeah, no alleys in this neighborhood. This is a front and center right on Broadway about 60 blocks north of times square
(the person at the edge of the photo is not the person in question, she's just inside the coffee shop on my left glaring at me)
@srol wait, so she's sitting inside furious that you get to sit next to the trash can?
I'm mostly posting to vent my discomfort. I am awful at public confrontation. My instinct is to move through this city taking up as little space and making as few waves as possible. But for some people, this is not enough, you need to be their doormat too.
@srol I'll never cease to be shocked at how rude and bossy people can be to total strangers.
@srol .....................................what year was this
@ShadowJonathan she's still here standing on the other side of the room giving me the stink eye
@srol ????
were there no other tables?
also, were you properly tucked in, with coffee and other things and such?
literally what the fuck though
