Pixelfed recalculates all users as active on server update (or at least 0.15.2 update) so the MAU is going to be massively wrong for a large part of the fediverse. It was pretty meaningless already but now we have another specific reason for it.
@liaizon That isn't correct, there was a postgres bug that affected some servers, as you can see by Pixelfed.social stats.
If that was true, Pixelfed.social would be reporting over 500k MAU, which is more than mastodon.social, and we never have.
@dansup well maybe you can help figure out what happened to @Yohei_Zuho's server then and help them fix it. I am just sharing the information I was just told.
@liaizon @Yohei_Zuho Boom https://fedidb.com/servers/pixelfed.tokyo
Unusual crawl activity was detected, thats why it was removed.
@dansup but @Yohei_Zuho just said in the previous post that their MAU is around 90 and you just did something and now its listed as 1,786?
@dansup @Yohei_Zuho looking at the numbers on https://fedidb.com/servers?software=pixelfed&limit=20 I can see many of these list the MAU way too high, like chroma.social and pixelfed.uno the MAU and the actual number of accounts is almost the same.
@liaizon @Yohei_Zuho Yeah, those will be fixed when they update! But pixelfed.uno is strange, I need to look into this
So https://fotofed.nl by @ruud is also updated to the latest version of Pixelfed 0.15.2 and now lists 10K active users out of 11K total accounts https://fedidb.com/servers/fotofed.nl
