LOL @ the Proton AI manifesto. “Writing code sucks, we spent too much time on boilerplate, no-one likes writing documentation or tests”
Way to just flat out say you just didn’t like writing code anymore and couldn’t be arsed to do it properly.

Imagine if real engineers said “we asked an AI because checking the integrity of the steel that went into that bridge was slow and boring”. Grow up and do your job, computer touchers
I love how their answer to “producing more code faster just means the bottleneck moves to test/review” is “well we’ll just LLM-juice that part too”. Oh, but you the “engineer” are still responsible for all of it. But you don’t have time to check it all, no that’s too slow.
Your job is now to feed requests in one end and take full responsibility for whatever comes out the other without having the time to verify more than a tiny percentage of it.
Insanity
It makes you wonder whether it’s possible to trust *any* software now. If every organisation has decided that speed and convenience trumps everything, and although they still hold their engineers accountable they don’t give them any time to actually review anything, how can you trust anything at all?
@sinbad It kills me and always has that real engineers tolerate us calling ourselves engineers. Even kills me that my degree says “Engineer” on it. If they “engineered” the way we do… that’d be a lot of corpses.
@jonikorpi @sinbad I don't like that. Enough do/did, that there are. The presence of charlatans doing the work and parasites holding the wheel doesn't delegitimize the discipline, only exposes the rot undermining it.
It’s increasingly clear to me that our industry has been flooded with people who were only here for the money and kudos, and were always looking for the quick answer.
Before this we endured years of shite software justified by the “hardware is cheap, dev time is expensive, so anything which reduces dev time is worth it” shite? Aged badly, didn’t it?
AI is the answer to an industry that’s 80% checked out already
