Have any of you heard of https://djyen.com/ I stumbled upon this (new?) #linuxaudio #plugin #developer yesterday. 🤔
"52 Linux-Native CLAP Units Modelled after $219,812 of analog hardware. No iLok. No DSP cards. No Wine. Runs in Bitwig & REAPER on Linux. Everything for $1,999 — or start free."
I reached out to learn more…
@amadeus For these kinds of prices they need to put a little more effort into prompting their eye-sore website.
"built this over months like a mad man" sounds like someone pouring all of their time into vibecoding alright. These kinds of plugins take a lot of time to develop properly by dedicated DSP heads.
I'd really wish you'd look a bit more critically and not spread this kind of stuff around so easily.
@dreamer I was asking if anybody heard of this before. I don't think I was spreading anything. Or was I? Anyway, I will look into this more closely as I got a demo an hour or so ago.
@dreamer The developer answered my questions about AI use in the meantime: He says that he has always been an early adopter and cutting edge and that he uses AI coding heavily and that this would allow him to move at the speed his ideas come. He went on to say that the vision, feature design, sound targets, and the listening and testing against the real hardware were all done without the help of AI.
@amadeus Yeah I'm not interested in any of this, sorry.
The developer already got back to me and offered test keys. I hope to have a closer look soon. He says he built this over months like a mad man. I will post here again after checking it out properly and asking him more questions.
This is interesting stuff. But how could they make this basically out of nowhere?
There's likely two answers to this: Either, it's all AI-coded stuff. Or it's all IR-based.
Altough it's producing kind-of a combinatorial explosion, it is possible to sample every combination of parameters from a device into an impulse response each. Thomann have proven so with the Stompenberg FX project.
I guess it's AI.
@amadeus Wondering if this is legit or a slop-coded thing. There appears to be no business behind it, which is kinda suspicious and it all looks too good to be true as well.
@wvi I find it peculiar. On the YouTube channel, you can see that the developer owns some of the hardware he claims to have modeled the plugins after. However, the room doesn't look like a mastering studio, and the video comparing the hardware to the plugin was recorded on a phone. The whole thing feels unusual and came out of nowhere for me. That said, I'm keeping an open mind and will report back if the developer provides any background information.
@amadeus Think I saw it on the REAPER forum under another name, but can‘t find the thread atm.
That one was a scam, selling shoddy vibe coded slop…
I would generally shy away from „premium“ priced software that offers no trial and no credentials like verifiable testimonials etc.
Guess we have to find a way to deal with this influx of plugins in a way that‘s secure and trustworthy…
@flosillermastering My gut feeling initially was that the whole thing seemed at least pretty odd. The developer appears to have a mastering studio and be surrounded by boutique equipment. Second, he almost certainly used AI to create this enormous arsenal of plugins. Then there's hardly any serious information or demos. And finally, the prices seem high. But then again, Linux-only!? I find the whole thing very unusual, let's just put it that way for now. 🙃
@amadeus Be VERY careful! This looks like a vibe-coded slop fest. IIRC, there was a post by this guy in another forum, and the Slop-jockey was run out of town (the forums). He started getting angry when people questioned how he could possibly create all of those in just a few weeks with any kind of accuracy. Things didn't go well, and I suspect that this is the same guy.
