Seriously, Ghostbusters is such a weird axis into Firefighting analogs: Ghostbusters should be not for profit Vokunteers. The Chief Ghostbuster maybe should probably be an elected position.
The movies continuing to be about privatized Ghostbusting but also failing to be profitable businesses while doing so, seems to understand this, but not very well.
I want a movie where Ghostbusters unionize and the people finally get it to be a proper civil service.
As a bonus it certainly could include dad jokes about the unionize (praxis) versus unionize (chemistry) homology.
I love “Answer the Call” so much. I forgot that immediately after the cold open is a mini-debate on public, open science versus for profit grants & awards “science”…
It’s almost like it really is the most cleverly written Ghostbusters movie in what it is trying to intentionally say 🤔
“Who are going to call?” “Ghost Jumpers!” The movie puts a pin in the cultural memory problem of ghosts in its problem and gets a second quick jab at ghost hunting reality TV.
“The cat has been out of the bag before but yet, people lose interest and put it back in.” These DHS has a paranormal department agents directly teasing the Extreme Ghostbusters thesis.
This thought brought to you from a discussion on “Answer the Call” (2016) and its place versus 2016 uspol and a “Well, actually GB has always been about DEI but might not have been openly intentional about it…” Per a lot of storytelling rules Winston Zeddemore is the main character (audience stand in, “normal” blue collar guy), but partly because he’s the “diversity hire“ people mistake Venkman’s Main Character Syndrome for the real thing.
