Altman has got a possible point about about efficiency. There are so many of us humans it might be that the most efficient way to spread minimum viable product to the largest possible number is with mass production. McDonald's can make the same point about kitchens and fuel for cooking as Altman makes about RAM. Consider that McDonald's recycles their grease much more efficiently than 100 million small-scale amateur cooks ever could. However, with McDonald's, for example, we have a good idea that the minimum viable product is possibly as deadly as it is 'viable', and that a diverse selection of less capital-intensive predecessor products is likely a superior choice. In laissez-faire jurisdictions, we rely on competitive markets and their invisible hand to make that choice, but laissez-faire jurisdictions have an awful lot of trouble maintaining competitive markets.
Free-market economic arguments about optimal this or that
that focus on improving things for captive customers and/or captive workers will never ring true until market power is effectively regulated more wisely.
