Achievement unlocked: first merge request for @gnome!
An extremely minor change, but I'm hoping that many small changes will eventually have a measurable impact on donations to the Gnome Foundation.
@joojmachine @gnome It's currently my job as Communications Specialist to both audit and craft the language surrounding donations across the project, so I'm listening 😊
How do you feel about the in-progress changes on the staging site? https://staging-donate.apps.openshift.gnome.org/en/
@killyourfm @gnome oooh, I REALLY like it, focusing on the donation options as the first thing on the page is a nice change, I only noticed a couple of regressions:
1. Nitpick, I admit, but I'd recommend using "free software" instead of "open source", at least for languages other than english, where the distinction is clearer (and as much as I'm not fond of stallman, he's right on this one: https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/open-source-misses-the-point.en.html), also repeating the GNOME name there is kind of redundant, so something like "Make a difference to a worldwide free software community"
2. The staging site doesn't have a link to the Fellowship page and the wording is vague, I believe a better wording on the frontpage would be "Financial support for contributors", since the "Learn more" page goes into a bit more detail (having the link to the fellowship page there would make sense as well, for even more detail)
3. "Community events" instead of "Developer events" would probably be better wording, since GUADEC and other events aren't only focused on developers, but on the community at large
@killyourfm @gnome it is really nice to see more folks taking note of these "minor" things
one thing that still bugs me to this day is the wording chosen all around the system when it comes to donations, with this issue being one I'm VERY interested in: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/work_items/3815
