Once again, a grant application to support #Vernissage has been rejected. This time, #NLnet declined funding for #C2PA photo provenance.
I’m genuinely sad and disappointed. #C2PA is an open standard, unlike Apple’s proprietary Reference Image solution.
I’ll implement it in Vernissage anyway, but on a much smaller scale than I had hoped. 😔
@mczachurski Have you considered that NLNet financing another project might be the origin of the problem?
Maybe you’ve been put on a list due to a certain someone, who was very good (*cough cough*) at misrepresenting what transpired?
@teotwaki @mczachurski I believe NLnet only funds one type of project in each segment so they can fund many types of projects, they have rejected my application for Sup too, because they have funded other messenger apps already.
@dansup @teotwaki @mczachurski I'm not so sure about that. I got funding for https://surfer-project.org/, a few calls before that they funded another very similar project, and since then they've funded 2 more
@dansup @mczachurski That would definitely explain why there is a deadlock, however I’d have hoped they make that clear in either the application process or as part of the rejection feedback.
But then I’m starting to ask for the level of bureaucracy I despise, which may be counterproductive in its own right.

@teotwaki Well, connections probably never hurt. 😅 But I’d rather not speculate about whether anyone is working against me. Some things are better left unknown! 🫣😉
@mczachurski @teotwaki For the record, I have never said anything to NLnet about any other project (including Vernissage), and they have their own approval process, one that can't be influenced by people (people tried to cancel my Loops funding before)
For now, I don’t plan to apply to #NLnet again. Maybe #Vernissage simply isn’t well known enough to the people making these decisions.
Being an independent open-source developer is tough. Corporations benefit from our work without giving much back. I honestly thought finding European funding for a European open-source project would be easier.
It’s exhausting and, frankly, discouraging.😔
