Duck duck fedi, please help me avoid the mix of old information and slop
I have a USB camera
I have a headless Debian Linux computer
I want to quickly and temporarily watch the camera over the network on my phone and/or laptop
Running a command in tmux is fine for this situation, I don't need a full fat surveillance system
How do?

@M0YNG Here are some ffmpeg commands from my DVB-S2X days, perhaps you'll find them useful:
Transmit side:

@M0YNG MediaMTX is quick to set up - their sample for a basic USB webcam is enough to get you started.
It's how I enjoy watching the weather at my new house, running in tmux exactly like you are thinking lol
@M0YNG VLC can also stream any V4L2 device using MPEG-TS or similar stream format. Edit: oh sorry missed the headless requirment, nvm
@M0YNG Publishing an RTSP stream from your USB cam should be possible using rtsp-simple-server.

VLC and plenty of other programs can subscribe to the RTSP stream for viewing.
