Over my decades of being an "activist" the one thing that I've heard over and over that pisses me off more than almost anything is being told that those of us agitating for change are being too "purist" and that what we're saying is just so unreasonable. It's a self-centering, knee-jerk reaction to having it pointed out that the systems we're ALL participating in are dangerously flawed and need to change or be discarded.
And the counter-argument, at least from me, has always been that yeah, no shit, change is hard. But if more people would have, at any point, stepped the fuck up and been willing to relinquish *some* of their own comfort & convenience (& sense of entitlement to those things) then we wouldn't be at a point where in order to even salvage ANYTHING worthwhile about life on Earth, we will all have to sacrifice even more.
Like, we could have done this in cooperative, easier-to-manage stages, but fuckin every middle-class wannabe capitalist had to lecture me about how direct action is "alienating" and "aggressive" and asking them to stop buying everything that pops into their head off of Amazon is tantamount to asking them to cut off their own limbs.
@angelteeth I can't even convince many of them that they actually don't need to keep using META to organize & to become dependent on META for activism, in these times, will totally backfire.
