@chockenberry a snapshot of 2007 would be pretty fun… though I think it would just look like Mastodon. Maybe we should bridge the old clients to new networks?
@stroughtonsmith Yeah it’s a bit like the issues with expired certificates: the plumbing is busted.
The snapshot case is already handled well by the Internet Archive. It would be fascinating to see these older things working with new data though!

@stroughtonsmith A big problem still remains: the older apps that you run on those emulators use APIs that no longer exist.
(In my case, the XML-based Twitter API circa 2007.)
You have to wonder if API bridges/emulation are the next area that gets solved.
