All tech manifestations are equal, but some are more equal than others 😉
On a more serious note, and because the concept of "just a tool" is often used, it's important to keep in mind that certain tools have ideological baggage. A hammer's primary role is not to be lethal (though it can be), but a gun's is. They aren't equal, ideologically speaking.
Now, where that leaves 2026 tech such as "AI", we can leave it as an exercise (on futility?) for the reader.

@neil There is too much doom and gloom to my taste including all the claims that the Internet isn't what it was. I was one of the first bringing Internet to the UK, with 300 baud modems, and I am upgrading my broadband to full fibre (the lowest tier is plenty) and reducing my monthly fee. And my amazingly powerful 6yo laptop runs for ~12h off a single charge and shifts 10s of megabytes per second given the chance, and Mastodon in near real time is as fun a USENET was with its ~1d response!

@neil yes, much of the tech is very positive. I just wish that UK policy could adapt more quickly. I very much expect AI to take my job long before it is safe for me to cycle to work, despite both being many years away. Also, the council refused us for a heat pump. 😒
