I walked through a single toe loop today and did it off of the wall! Pretty interesting mechanics in that you do half the rotation with both feet on the ice so it’s actually not as scary as I would have thought. Also did some waltz jumps and mazurkas with good form. I’m still working on the three turn entrance to the mazurkas and toe loop but it’s pretty exciting to have moved on to single jumps finally! #figureskating #goodnews
@irene My coach wants me doing my FI3 with my free leg behind me the whole time so it's a) aiding the turn and b) ends up pretty much in position to start the toe jump (I'm not sure that one is an explicit reason but it's something I noticed was a result).
Of course due to scaredy-brain I can still only do the turn near the wall and the jump as a walk through while holding the wall, so not sure how much extra stretch back I'd need if doing it for realsies.
@zeborah exactly me too! I’m still a little wobbly on the 3 turn with my leg extended the whole time because my instinct is to tuck. But I just started practicing it. It’s not so scary because I’ve gotten my waltz jump down pretty well so the last part is basically a waltz jump (but not the dreaded toe waltz).
@irene Haha once I jokingly told my coach it was my "toe waltz pivot". It does seem like if/when I'm confident enough to do the waltz jump away from the wall, the toe loop will be a reasonable next step. But I really need a stronger BO edge, it's my nemesis.
The inside three turn entrance is somewhat hard because I need to know when to check my rotation at the end of the three turn and stretch back to start the toe loop. I guess a lot of olympians now do an outside three turn entrance and switch feet into the toe loop and it goes through trends in terms of what people prefer! #figureskating #goodnews
