A great essay from Audiodamage about the problems with AI in the music industry; "the third head of this ugly hydra" sums up the #AI "art" and "music" problem in particular. https://www.audiodamage.com/blogs/news/slopapotamus-ai-and-the-indie-plugin-business
@fluffy because if they fully control any means of making money from it, then nobody else can. which is their endgame. ๐ That way they can make sure no art of any kind challenges their rule and only "acceptable" music and art is made - churned out like sausages from a factory.
@Nine I don't think it's even that deliberate or thought out on their parts
@fluffy that makes it so much worse tho. if it was deliberate at least you could know, and directly fight it, but this fucking cackhanded mindless "oh feed it to the ai/get the ai to do it for you!" bullshit is just... so distressingly bleak.
@fluffy I think thereโs a wretched hubris in it. Computing has conquered so many things that it feels inevitable to them that it will conquer everything. That it _should_. Itโs an infantile viewpoint from people who havenโt seen the world beyond their own screens.
@fluffy Because artists and writers can say no to doing propaganda, can create thought provoking art or write protest songs. An automated sound generator is never going to carry a guitar marked with This Machine Kills Fascists, or go into the world armed with three chords and the truth, it's never going to soundtrack a revolution or capture the spirit of resistance.
The rich obliterated journalism and comedy to limit speaking truth to power, so this is a natural progression.
@fluffy pretty sure all justifications in favor of ai are post-hoc at this point
like its really easy for them to just make up some flowery bs about how its gonna uplift ppl and do what no tech has ever done
at this point you're probably thinking about it far more than they are
Why are they obsessed with making art and music obsolete?
Why do they think art and music, the two most open things in the fucking *universe*, that even other *species* do, need to be "democratized"?
