luckily I pay on a monthly basis and will migrate to something else ASAP.
don’t know where though… I just put in all my passwords and token generators into the Wallet so that’s a bit shit.
@hipgnose hoping they kick him out because of this PR disaster so we don’t have to…
@hbons have you tried self-hosting vaultwarden? I’ve been using it for a while without any issues.
@hbons my sub is up in Feb. But I'm trying to figure out a game plan now. I'll likely end up on Fastmail with a self-hosted Vaultwarden/Keyguard combo. I've never super trusted Proton (on the ethical side not technical) so I've figured this was coming at some point but it's no less exhausting or dissapointing.
@hbons Well shit... Time to migrate again, and I just got comfortable after migrating from Bitwarden last year
@NullTheFool I keep lowering my standards and companies still manage to nosedive on the floor…
@hbons At this rate I might as well write all my passwords in a notebook and memorize them
@NullTheFool @hbons an ethical password manager has been the hardest thing to find for me. Bitwarden, Proton, and 1Password have all failed that extremely low bar. Keepass seems like a UX nightmare if you need it on multiple devices and/or multiple users but there's increasingly less and less options. I think I'm settling with self-hosting vaultwarden and using the keyguard app on my phone as to avoid official bitwarden stuff as much as possible but it's not my favorite solution.
@hbons For emails I am pretty happy with https://soverin.com/.
I also switched password managers recently: From 1Password to ChiPass on desktop and KeePassDX on Android (I sync the files with Syncthing). It is definitely a step down in terms of UX though.
Really wish someone would make a local-first PW manager with non-programmers in mind :/
@tautropfli @hbons super curious. could you spell out what is less good in @keepassxc ?
@lennybacon @tautropfli folks forked it into ChiPass because the LLM policy. also it has a better icon (but I’m biased ;p)
also they did a pretty good job with the UX. it will be hard to replace…
Install Fedizen
Get the full app experience
@hbons yeah, it's also pretty difficult to beat the regional prices and convince my family to migrate once again 🫠
