I got some socks on sale for 2 euro per pair but tbh that's still ridiculously expense to me.
To me socks are worth nothing really. Same as underwear.
If I was in charge they'd be 10 for a euro.

@Tijn ha, to each their own! Socks are one of those things where I buy the nicest ones I can because it makes my whole life better. The first time I bought some nice-ass wool socks and wore them for awhile, I was like, "uh-oh, now I have to have a sock budget."

@alisynthesis Myabe I've just never wore a nice pair of socks, this is very possible!
That said, I can't imagine the quality of my socks having any impact at all. To me they're the ultimate "put on & forget" piece of clothing.
I wear them because I don't like cold feet, but otherwise I want to move on to more interesting things as quickly as I can! Spending more than 5 seconds thinking about socks is already too much!

My feet were always too hot/cold, and I also have issues with foot cramps that good socks (and a lot of other attention) really help with. Also, I got holes in my socks constantly. Also I am neurodivergent af and really sensitive to clothes-touching-me-wrong stuff. 😆
But yeah, if you never think about your socks anyway, I agree with your original stance.
@alisynthesis Yeah, and I'm also just a bit utilitarian in general really.
I remember years ago reading about how marvelous mechanical keyboards are supposed to be. How nice it was to type on them, how satisfying the clicky sounds felt.
So I got one. It typed just like any keyboard to me. You press the key, the letter appears on screen. I couldn't care less what happens in between in turns out lol
@Tijn I bet if I bothered to keep track, I have spent less on socks since I switched, even though the ones I wear are like $25/pair. We have a company in Vermont, Darn Tough, that has a lifetime warranty on their socks. I've never had to use it because their socks are, well, darn tough, but theoretically, I should never have to buy socks again.
The other thing about wool socks is that you can wear them for several days without washing them because wool is magical.

@brhfl I am veery careful with them!! I am also in a single person household, so the kinds of things that happen when different people are doing laundry aren't a factor.
@Tijn (I also recognize that spending $25 for a pair of socks is not always possible. It certainly wasn't for me for most of my adult life.)
@Tijn every few years, my mom, wife or mother-in-law will buy me a gigantic 10-pack of socks from costco for $15 CAD. they last me 5-10 years. by the time they’re becoming threadbare, someone buys me a new pack for christmas.
i have seriously not bought myself socks in 25 years 😅
