What's the best open source cross-platform note taking app that works across desktop and mobile?
@gamingonlinux JOPLIN IS FANTASTIC! I HAVE USED IT TO KEEP TRACK OF MY PLANS FOR WORLD DOMINATION!
@gamingonlinux Obisidian here or the new Tolaria if you want to use AI
@gamingonlinux FUTO Notes? The sync server can be self hosted too
Okay, gonna try out Joplin. Seems nice.
@gamingonlinux I loved Joplin but they went the wrong way about AI. I switched to Notesnook.
@gamingonlinux doesn't even need an account to go cross device, just syncthing the folder
@gamingonlinux It has its quirks but does the job!
@gamingonlinux using standardnotes with self hosted backend for many years, but joplin looks good as well
@gamingonlinux I've used joplin for a few years, it's fine. The UI is rough around the edges for me. It replaced SimpleNotes which was a bit too simple, but I've eventually settled on Obsidian
@gamingonlinux I've been using Obsidian with Syncthing forever. But Obsidian is not FOSS so I'm looking for good alternatives. Thanks for this thread, a few options I want to try out have been mentioned.
@gamingonlinux
So, uhm, "it's not an app, it's a lifestyle choice", but I'm currently on Emacs with OrgMode. On mobile there's Orgzly Revived for android, and Beorg for iOS. Both can natively sync over WebDAV (say, nextcloud).
@gamingonlinux I quite like Standard Notes
@gamingonlinux I use Joplin. No way of saying if that would be best for your use :-)
@gamingonlinux The eternal question. I like Joplin.

As an old-time evernote user who ended fed-up with their totally abnormal price raises, I never felt at home with Joplin, then I fell in love with NotesNook.
Their paradigm is much nearer to evernote's.
Still hosted in a cloud, but the price is much lower than evernote.
The client soft is opensource, and you can host your own server (opensource too, but still alpha now) if you like. Both are under GPLv3.
