my most problematic opinion is probably "i do not think identity is very important"

@whitequark identity is only useful for finding your friends and enemies imo
@ariadne i've personally found it the opposite of useful when it comes to the former, and largely useless when it comes to the latter, but i agree that this is one way you could use this tool
what i think it's not useful for, specifically, is for building a sense of self out of
@whitequark to be clear I meant as a bootstrapping tool.
one's social role, one's actions, one's disposition relative to others; all of these things eclipse one's identity in importance. identity does offer a fertile ground for categorization and subsequent infighting over these categories, though.
