Can I get a slop judgment call please? Yay or nay?
@thomholwerda author's profile lists his day job as founder of "studpilot" which turns out to be AI for Roblox; so take that as you will in the context of this judgement call.
@thomholwerda the repo has Claude in the tags... 😁
@thomholwerda another telling sign https://github.com/MosheByte/MineAssembly/blob/main/docs/ARCHITECTURE.md
@thomholwerda a million percent. How not?
@thomholwerda A "minecraft-like game" that "real Minecraft Java Edition 26.1 clients can join"?
I call bullshit whatever the tech stack.
Thanks for all the replies.
This is my life now, by the way. My job is now basically to scan every fucking thing I want to write about on @osnews for slop.
I fucking hate it here.
@thomholwerda The author says on his LinkedIn: "I use Claude and other AI tools to help me build, learn and work through problems."
@thomholwerda Is the thousands and thousands of lines of assembly slop?
Absolutely. No one would just do that to themselves.
Also, going back to the early commits, there's a lot of
<!-- draft rev 4 -->, which is an LLM tag, and they spend a number of commits where that tag is there--because the LLM committed it--and then there's a followup commit just to remove all the LLM tags.Look at this commit: https://github.com/MosheByte/MineAssembly/commit/b3ddb704026583336fa775288bddb3465c4291ac
It is, I believe, the first commit with actual code it. It's one file, common.inc, and it sets up a bunch of common variables and methods. But... common to what? There's no other code. Nobody opens up a new coding project and says, "You know what I'm going to do first? I'm going to figure out a bunch of random common variables and methods that I'm going to need, and make that file first."
And in case you think this might be a set of general "common" utilities they always start a project with, check the comments and you'll find all kinds of stuff like this:
Nobody has "TODOs" and "FIXMEs" in something they reuse over and over to start a project.
Also, next commit: https://github.com/MosheByte/MineAssembly/commit/ee3ee9128ac097f441bd10f78c094f78d7e319f7
Yup, they just removed all the LLM notes.
Next code commit: https://github.com/MosheByte/MineAssembly/commit/2e8f5b55371c4ca65a06387b24f9dd6a11a48ca4
You better believe it's another single file, basically complete, with a couple minor adjustments to common.inc. I say basically complete, but guess what? You can go to the recent code and see that it hasn't changed since the followup commit where they removed all the LLM tags.
They appear to be creating a program, one disjointed but complete file at a time.
I don't know this for sure, but I bet you dollars to donuts that the "development process" for this project is "have AI decompile actual Minecraft and convert to assembly file-by-file".
And I'm not even allowed to eat donuts.
