Question for #mastoadmin #selfhost folks out there. ElasticSearch has significant memory requirements and my new computer/host has less RAM than my previous. And the version supported by mastodon is EOL.
Is OpenSearch less memory hungry?
(And is there a decent tutorial as it is not “officially” supported by mastodon)

FWIW: Something I learned later on is that you can constrain ES’s memory usage.

In terms of setup: I’ve not used it for mastodon, but my understanding is that the mastodon side is basically the same as elasticsearch.

@chris Opensearch won't be any less memory intensive as it's still fundamentally similar under the hood. Though the newer versions of Elasticsearch do work fine without any warnings, we run the latest 9.x releases on both of my instances and have never ran into issues.
