Have you ever clicked on an account to see its profile, but the profile looks blank? In most cases the account isn't really blank!

What's usually going on is no one on your server follows that account. If you follow it, its posts will start gradually showing up on your server too.

More info (including how to check what a blank account really looks like) at:

The guide also explains how to prevent your own account looking blank to others.

@FediTips
I didn't know the trick with pinning posts to make them visible to everyone! That's very useful to know! 🙏

But I follow at least one active account (even on mastodon.social) that looks blank although I follow them since a while.
For me, this is the only thing that really disturbs me here. Mastodon is supposed to have no "algorithm" but this behaviour really feels like a completely intransparent algorithm. ☹️
Are there tools to better understand/visualise the servers' connections?

@Ja_E_I_O_U

If you're following an account, all its posts made after the moment you followed will show up on your server. The only way it could remain blank to you is if it never posted after you followed.

It might look blank to non-followers if it posts entirely with followers-only visibility.

Without knowing the account that you are seeing as blank, it's difficult to say what you are seeing. If you have a link to the account or a screenshot, that would help explain what is happening.

@FediTips That‘s why I go to the account‘s home insurance to check, not mine.
