Future archeologists have dubbed us the "glass rounded rectangle and plastic trash people"
@beecycling @futurebird This just reminds me how 'it was done for ritual purposes', is archaeologist speak for 'we don't fucking know why they did it.'
Except when they really do mean that, which I think really frustrates the archaeologists who have found out that something really was done for ritual purposes.
@futurebird do we have a glass rounded rectangular shape?
@futurebird One day they will discuss rhe rapid expansion of "The glass tablet culture" in academic halls.
Kind of odd that people aren't buried with their phones.
Burry my with my mom's old Apple II
@futurebird NBC wrote about it as a trend in 2008

I'm guessing people nowadays realize it will be outdated in just a few years, and then they're stuck forever with a chunk of useless electronics. Or maybe network standards also go to heaven when they die?
Anyway, I'm getting cremated. Don't try to have your loved ones phone cremated with them, folks!
@futurebird I really don't want to have to deal with my smartphone in the afterlife. At last, a chance to disconnect!
That's fine. But I want to haunt everyone ... digitally... forever.
Probably not a good idea to bury people with their phones then you might get ghost texts and emails.
@futurebird There’s a Stephen King movie about this with Donald Sutherland.
@futurebird In the book The Power by Naomi Alderman, in the far future, they refer to historical artefacts of the 21st century, which are marked with the 'bitten fruit.' Which they think must have been some kind of religious symbol. Certainly of some great cultural import anyway. 😏
