@daringfireball I can’t say I feel like missing out one bit. Looks like it’s slower and less predictable for basic things I use it for today and already way behind on anything else. Let me set my own default provider. Give me permissions to decide what I give it access to.

@daringfireball the alarming thing in the UK is our centre-left party wants to drag us back into the EU. Somehow being outside is seen as being as extreme as supporting Trump. (I myself have been called fascist online for stating my pref that the UK stays outside the EU).
@daringfireball When Trump suggested Canada become a US state, you could laugh knowing that including Canada would affect US elections. No one says this about the UK being in the EU because of the EU’s “democratic deficit”. (Something you seem to miss whenever you discuss it on Dithering. “EU voters might vote differently.” Oh, for who? I’d love to know what their options are.)
@animatorpete @daringfireball what’s your point? That there is no direct election of the President of the European Commission? There are obvious historic and politically pragmatic reasons for it. But parliament has to confirm and is elected. So are the heads of government in the council. The “EU” is also still super young. So it shouldn’t be any surprise that these checks and balances are WIP and hard after just 20y. Clearly the US is still WIP after 250y…
@janwedek @daringfireball EU commission proposes laws and is unelected. They are checked by EU parliament, which is directly elected.
In the UK we have introduced the Online Safety Act. If we don't like it, we know who to vote for at the next election to get it repealed.
In the EU, who do you vote for at the next election to repeal the DMA?
@daringfireball macOS has not the gatekeeper status in the EU. So Apple Intelligence and Siri AI in the macOS will be available in the EU. The availability depends upon the language though.
