I accidentally tested GNOME OS Preview on my work laptop (I made an install flash drive for another computer and then left it in when rebooting…), and holy smokes this is smooooooth.
Idk if it’s just GNOME 51 updates, or something GNOME OS itself is doing, but it feels really, really snappy. And GNOME 50 on Fedora Silverblue was no slouch, either!
I’m telling myself to not use it for work, but everything I do is backed up… 👀
@cassidy Need to take a look at the new gnome. Still like the UI a lot. Just missing regular tray icons :(
@cassidy Do you think Gnome Os and Fedora Silver blue are more fluid due to not having all the RPM things? 🤔
Hmm, disk encryption might actually keep me from using it. Idk if that’s easy or supported to set up yet (especially since I know GNOME OS is going to adopt homed encryption instead…).
To be clear I think I could use homed instead, but that’s not ready; whereas I can use FDE on Fedora Silverblue today. 🤔
@cassidy There's FDE encryption already, by default it's tied to the tpm2 state but you can add a pin if you like.

@alatiera oh, TIL, neat! Thanks!

@cassidy I'm running it on both my desktop and my laptop. It's very nice. No issues so far (with the exception of a bit of faffing to get syncthing and tailscale working.)
