Me: "I wish I could write custom software and plugins for my $1300 MPC Live III".
Akai: "I will never allow you to do that".
Behringer: "You want to write software? We're open sourcing the entire operating system for our $150 MPC knockoff".

@lislegaard I'm SO tempted to throw hacked firmware and plugins on the MPC, but I know Akai will lock it down, so I'm just kind of pretending that scene doesn't exist. If people are still using custom software on it a year from now, then maybe I'm in.
And yeah, Behringer is shitty in handfuls of ways. And honestly, I can't imagine their new Kick will be that great at such a low price point. But it's interesting to watch the two different directions.

@gabek oh god help me, me too. There are some things about my MPC that drive me absolutely crazy that could be fixed in a jiffy if someone bothered. I think waiting is the prudent choice, but I don't think alternative firmware is going anywhere, so I imagine I'll eventually try it.
@gabek
also "hey this claude ai alternative firmware for the mpc gives you all this features".
gotta choose between different deals with the devil i guess. behringer is semi-cancelled for shitty behaviour in my house. at least i will look HARD for an alternative.
