the correct version of libreoffice to use now is an old one
it's remarkably stable software and the ODF format is fine too
dunno when the slop started showing up. but for now run 25.08 I expect, that was the last version before TDF went really fuckin weird
@davidgerard tainted forever
How's LaTeX these days re. the slopiverse? 🤔
@davidgerard
The Mint 22.3 Distro version seems to be
Version: 24.2.7.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 420(Build:2)
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 6.8; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-GB (en_GB.UTF-8); UI: en-GB
Ubuntu package version: 4:24.2.7-0ubuntu0.24.04.7
Calc: threaded
Stupid version scheme. Year should only be a prefix.
But Mozilla is totally bonkers with rolling releases and the main version number.
@davidgerard@circumstances.run oh no 🤦
why are all these "FOSS" companies letting a handful of white billionaires in america be responsible their software!?
(I will not be accepting any arguments against this as it is literally what is happening thank you).
Any idea when the license switch-and-grab is going to happen? I suspect when the white billionaire pocket inflating grift businesses need a new money hit.
@davidgerard 2026 - a great year for me to switch to Linux and LibreOffice.

@davidgerard
Well fuck. I guess I need to find another way to edit my books now.. why does everything turn into ********* slop???
Can't trust google, can't trust open source.
I am so damn tired... Literally. I can't keep up with the sloppification.
@hiisikoloart old versions of LO are fine still
@davidgerard could you be less vague, please
@davidgerard but have you heard of libreoffice
@davidgerard nooooo, what happened? I seem to remember a few days (weeks?) ago we were all happy that they were advertising no ai slop as a feature.
@gnpar tl;dr they fucking lied, they're slop coding
@davidgerard I think the situation is more nuanced. As you probably know, it is now *mandatory* in most companies to use AI for coding. This means projects might have two choices: a) refuse all such contributions, even if they come from trusted old-timers or b) allow them and try to limit the blast radius by ensuring the changes are small and well understood. As an aside, I'm not a fan of the whole "pretending to have used AI" gig when in fact it wasn't, but it is what it is.
@yo8rzz lol wtf no, this is a nonprofit foundation making the slop excuse
@davidgerard what a fucking disgrace.
@davidgerard @gnpar That’s what I just said. “No forced AI” in the function of the software, but not “No AI” used in the production of their software. They used it as a publicity stunt. That omission is the lie!
F’aaaaaaah’uck
@Random_Seed @davidgerard @gnpar I think that ship has completely sailed, folks.
Sorry to say. It was a shock to me as well. And I even saw it coming and yet humans are still so bad at extrapolation even quadratic rates of improvement. And the tools are getting really good (ethical considerations nonwithstanding).
Fortunately, there's always an option to fork if purity is desired.

What is the last reliable, no-slop version of LibreOffice, and where can one (i.e., me) download it?
Serious inquiry, looking for helpful replies not venting or snark, thank you.
