While interrogating some oddness with gnome-text-editor, I discovered that my system has "Kate" installed without me having any memory of installing it. I am now incredibly tickled by the thought of Kate just sorta showing up on your couch, yeah whatevs Kate is just hanging out, after a while you discover nobody remembers inviting her or unlocking the door to let her in. Kate's just like that
@mcc Kate is Dawn from Buffy.
@guyjantic actually arguably that's gnome-text-editor, because everybody got Mandala Effected into "wait, isn't that gedit"? because gedit got quietly replaced after a reinstall with gnome-text-editor
@mcc Well if memory serves, Kate is the Default Text Editor for KDE. Now imagine what the actual Default Text Editor (you know its name) would do if it crashed on your couch.
@mcc Kate’s just chillin’, but she’ll happily pass you a piece of paper and a pen if you ask for one.
Nobody knows where she got all this paper.
Nobody asks.
@drsbaitso "Kate is this… is this *zig-zag*?"
Related thread from 2024. It feels less funny now than it was then because if I wrote it today I'd have to include a bit about vim getting addicted to heroin
@mcc Does she play Wipeout on the drums? Do the squirrels and the birds come to gather round to sing her guitar?
