LibreOffice is now a project that uses chatbot code then tells people who call them out that slop is "not slop"
so much for the "no AI" babble

@nick_evans that's nice, but what they're claiming this in response to is a changelog full of slop
@davidgerard ugh. I was avoiding looking too closely at this because I didn't want to add yet another to the list. I'm just sad and disappointed by everything in the software world. What happened to the era of open source projects being concerned about copyright and provenance and over-reliance on proprietary tooling? My disappointment includes my own conflicted compromises, which ultimately weren't compromised enough for my employer of over 15 years.
@davidgerard
Yet another story of This Is Not Slop Because I Say So™.
@davidgerard They never proclaimed to be no AI in that sense though. Their campaign was “no integrated AI by default, your documents are yours”.
@mono lol begone sockpuppet
@davidgerard@circumstances.run
shout out to the Lobste.rs user who called me pointing out LO had merged slop commits "purity testing"
@federicoschonborn *walks up to you covered in shit* purity tester
@davidgerard@circumstances.run
when a bakery announces they won't put asbestos in their cake frosting you must not point out they're already putting asbestos in their cake filling, you see
@davidgerard add office suite to the list of things we'll need to build a nonslop replacement for. Right after OS, nbd
@davidgerard
Sigh.
Wake me when we finally hit slopocalypse bottom.
@davidgerard plus that snarky tone. what a bunch of asshats.
@davidgerard Oh shiiiiiiit! What other alternative
? Open Office? Something else
@davidgerard why does it matter if contributors use AI to improve the product?
@davidgerard Strong correlation between slop apology and sealioning, isn't there?
@atanasoff @davidgerard I think over a million people more eloquent than me have written extensively about the issues with AI at this point, and it's all just a web search away.
That being said one of my favorite pieces on it is Codeberg's writeup from when they banned AI-heavy projects:
https://blog.codeberg.org/protecting-our-floss-commons-from-llms.html
And also this one, though that's a bit of a broader discussion about AI usage as a whole:
https://eev.ee/blog/2025/07/03/the-rise-of-whatever/
Finally, I also recently saw a nice collection of links about environmental impacts of AI and the involvement of the firms behind it in genocide, here:

@davidgerard STOP PLEASE GOD MAKE IT STOP WHY IS EVERYTHING I LIKE GOING TO SLOP
@davidgerard Still trying to spin my head the correct orientation because it was just a month or two ago where they were going big on the "never AI" campaign...to see the exact opposite done is....insane.
@davidgerard
Great 😑
Any suggestions of what program I can switch to? I have a LOT of old writing docs done with LO
@angelteeth older LO basically
@davidgerard @angelteeth
Kinda unfortunate due to security vulnerabilities and bugs piling up as time goes by. :'(
@davidgerard we already went from OpenOffice to LibraOffice, which new synonym should we use for the next one?
@ShadSterling @davidgerard HumanOffice / MeatOffice / OrganOffice
@davidgerard Oh FFS really? So goddamn disappointed.
@davidgerard did they delete all their posts or something, the account looks dead and abandoned
@davidgerard I have to admit that (at a glance), this isn't far from my stance. I'm the primary maintainer for a tiny open source project (but not the owner). I refuse to use LLM codegen, myself. The LLM PR descriptions universally suck and drain my soul of the will to continue. *But* a bugfix is bugfix, and a single line bugfix is either identical to what I would've written by hand or I've asked them to rewrite it. I've accepted multiline test cases iff they ape the style in other tests.
