I overheard a conversation where someone was explaining that a 13” laptop is a toy, unfit for serious work because it’s too small to get anything done.
My friend, what if I told you I sold software I wrote on a 13” CRT at 640x200? I wouldn’t want to go back, but that size at 3024x1964? I think I could find a way to persevere.
@tek I regularly downsize from my external display to the laptop screen because smaller screen real estate actually helps me focus better on the single problem in front of me. Happy for anyone who can work better with dual curved 37" displays but I only have a 60 degree field of view with my glasses on and enough brain cells to handle a quarter of that at a time.
@vees That resonates with me. I only usually want at most a couple / three windows visible at once: a tall editor, a terminal, maybe a browser to look at docs.
Hardware specs on 13" and 14" laptops are practically identical with most vendors.
I'm hooked up to an external monitor 90% of the time, so the practical differences are pretty small.
I generally go with a 13" because the portability benefits outweigh the marginal difference in screen size, although my aging eyesight might bump me up to something larger.
@DaveMWilburn Same for me. 100% of the time I’m using it stationary at work, it’s on a large monitor. The rest of the time I’m carrying it around. I’ve honestly considered getting a Mac mini instead.
