i've been watching through Star Wars with my 7 year old. We tried Machette Order, something I've tried fairly recently. I remember being enthralled by the originals and bored out of my skin for the prequels (despite watching Attack of the Edit).

My 7 year old got so bored during Attack of the Clones he tuned it out. He didn't make it half an hour into Revenge of the Sith. He's *enthralled* by the original trilogy.

@silverwizard What's Attack of the Edit?

@hypolite there's The Phantom Edit and Attack Of The Edit, which are reedits of Star Wars Episode 1 and 2 where they made them a little less bullshit. Less comedy scenes with Jar Jar, less baby Boba Fett going "Yeah dad! Blast him!" and all of that. It's a better version of the same bones of the story IMO.

I also use Harmy's Despecialized Editions, which are versiond of the OT that adhere to the original releases while upscaling the footage.

@hypolite Someone on the fediverse also found a damaged set of filmreels of the OT and made Star Wars Grindhouse which I don't know if they're around but I can supply if needed.

@silverwizard I'm ambivalent about the amount of efforts that have come into the Star Wars franchise, both on the production side and the fan side, while the results are overall mixed for me. It's interesting that the Star Wars original trilogy makes such a big impression on kids, but it is also a weird indictment of its creative limitations. And I'm amazed and sad a the same time that this impression carries over well into adulthood, to ridiculous results like these fan edits.
