Clearly this poor old Mastodon server has seen better days. There's been discussion around the camp about putting it out to pasture. To be replaced with a shiny new Mastodon on the iridescent.nz domain, where active accounts can migrate over the next year or 2.
Hopefully we can find a way to keep a post archive running under the mastodon.nzoss.nz domain. Any advice on that?

I've been intending to set up a @disintermedia account, focused more narrowly on the topics I cover in long form posts on disintermedia.net.nz; human rights in the digital space, political economy of decentralisation in all its forms, ethical tech news and reviews, etc. A @disintermedia account would reply only to correct, clarify, or info as context, leaving the more opinionated posts and back-and-forth debates to @strypey@mastodon.nz.
If that's what you follow this account for, watch this space.

My plan for now is to set up the @disintermedia account when the new server is up at iridencent.nz. Since that's become the new home of the demo services formerly known as nzoss.nz (for NZOSS, NZ Open Source Society), and I trust the hosts as both competent admins and thoughtful mods.
But I also want to get AP federation working on the Ghost instance at disintermedia.net.nz. If and when that happens, I'll reevalute whether a separate Mastodon account for Disintermedia is still needed.

But we're coming into a time of radical change, I feel it in my marrow. So I might end up completely rethinking this, come the new calendar year.
Maybe mastodon.nz would be a better place for a @disintermedia account? Maybe all my shitposting could happen on a Wafrn account, with ATProto syndication turned on? Maybe the iridescent.nz Mastodon could host the official fediverse.party account I want to set up?

In anticipation of sunset over mastodon.nzoss.nz, I've set up a new account at @strypey@mastodon.nz
This will be the new home of my public stream of consciousness; political rants, ShowerThoughts, jokes, memes, and general shitposting (with the rules and etiquette of mastodon.nz, of course). If that's what you follow my account for, you know what to do.
If I'm honest, I was chewing my own face off without somewhere to post all that.
(Yes, I need professional help, anyone offering that pro bono? 😁)
