I do wish we'd stop with the time changes. I think I do prefer DST (assuming that "office hours" remain stubbornly fixed, it moves daylight hours later into the evening, meaning more of the year has daylight when I want it most) but the skews are still awful. There's all kinds of data showing they're awful. We should pick something and stop.
@Cheeseness hell yeah, if you can pull that off and it works for you that's great.
I am less-beholden to clocks than some others but it still hits me. I'm legit dreading the change back to standard time that's coming up (and I think already happened in a lot of countries?) because sunset will move back from 6pm-ish to 5pm-ish. Which is partly my fault for living at 40 degrees latitude, but still.
@ChateauErin Back when I had dayjobs/regular employment, I made up some garbage about sports commitments and negotiated starting/finishing an hour "later" in summer. Turned out employers were willing to be flexible for that but not my wellbeing? Also bonkers. When I couldn't, I still stuck to UTC+10 for my waking hours
Now I'm self employed/a freelancer working with people around the world, I just treat locals like they're in a different timezone
I'm lucky/privileged in both contexts, for sure
@ChateauErin I used to live a little over 42 degrees south, under the shadow of a mountain that would mean there'd be no sun at like 3:30pm in Winter. Good times.
@Cheeseness crafty. Tbh I think that would work here too, I know someone who changes their hours one day a week for disc golf.
@ChateauErin I cycled to work, so morning cycling training was a relatively easy-to-swallow justification for starting "later" in the summer (and didn't rely on having some sports org to cover for me)
@ChateauErin 1,000,000%!
Some people ask me why I don't do it (local time zone observes daylight savings), and for some reason "my life is better for it" isn't enough. That is bonkers to me.
