I hate FM radio stations so much. They've all just been playing the same 12 songs over and over for over a decade now. The ads are the only thing that change from time to time.

@adrint in like 1994 I used to have to drive an hour to get to high school. I would hit a butthole surfers song I hated on the radio and would change the station and it would be playing on another station. sometimes I would like a song and listen to it all the way through, then change the dial until I found the other station that was just starting to play it within a minute or two. I am not kidding.

Slip my hand down my paaaants
Give myself some wet dreeeeeams
Joel was on his 16th minute of fame with that one. That goofy song charting was just the recording industry giving him their version of a a Lifetime Achievement Award

@mrsaturday @patriarchalape @sun You know what's even worse than most radio stations in the big '26? Shopping malls, department stores, & grocery stores. Instead of the same ~12 songs on loop forever, try 5.
@patriarchalape @adrint no one should care about radio since like the 1980s
@mrsaturday @adrint they were just firing people for a long time because it's all not even algorithm, its literally just the same playlist everywhere. they used to pay a human to sit in a room and record chunks of messages for hundreds of cities then madlib them together "Hey out there in [CEDAR RAPIDS IOWA] hows it going I'm looking over the [INTERSTATE 80 BRIDGE' and its a sunny day" to make it sound like there's a guy in your city playing songs. Sometimes I'd be in one city and there was another city close enough to get both stations and you'd hear the madlibs.
There was an incident once where there was an industrial spill and officials were trying to get emergency warnings put on the radio but there was no human at all in the radio station while its dj recording was blabbering all day.
I want people to know this shit when they bitch about AI slop taking over (yes it is bad not saying it isn't) because this slop was happening in 1996.
