my research so far has uncovered a list of game engines and whether a good adult game has every been made in them:
@ben someone I grew up with has spent two decades building a game in RPG Maker XP, so I'm guessing the reason there isn't an adult game on that platform is that anyone who's tried is still having too much fun making the game to ever actually release it. 🙃

I've played like three bad ones
also after playing a lot of games on itch and a lot of demos in the Steam Next Fest that just ended I can firmly say that if a game starts with me needing to know the names of more than like four people it has lost me
if you're making a game demo the time when the demo tells you to stop must be directly correlated to progression
because otherwise you're designing your demo to demand that the player rushes through it and doesn't enjoy it, which will not result in a sale
you can have your demo end at day 10 or whatever but if the progression of the game isn't tied directly to the day number that's a bad way to constrain your demo

latest one I played in that was made in RPGMaker was a bondage-themed one and it would be appealing to a hypothetical person who found tapping the arrow key that is displayed on the screen really sexual
if your plan is to make a game in RenPy or RPGMaker and your plan does not include words like "writing" or "story" you shouldn't
